Congress PASSES VA Healthcare Bill

In the wake of everyone’s shock and awe at Eric Cantor’s stunning defeat this week, did anyone notice something on Capitol Hill that hasn’t happened in a long time??  Yes, that’s right… both houses of the United States actually did some WORK this week.  Work that was not meeting with lobbyists or calling rich folks to beg for campaign cash.  The House of Representatives passed a bill to improve VA healthcare UNANIMOUSLY!!  And on Wednesday, the Senate passed a similar bill by and overwhelming margin.  Your eyes are not deceiving you.  Here’s the story from Politico

The Senate on Wednesday overwhelmingly passed legislation aimed at increasing veterans’ access to health care and holding accountable bad actors in the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The legislation passed 93-3 and represents rare cooperation between the House and Senate, raising hopes that Congress is moving swiftly toward a VA reform compromise to send to the president’s desk. The Senate legislation largely mirrors similar proposals from the House, and lawmakers and aides do not expect a knock-down political fight as the two chambers iron out their discrepancies over the coming days…

…With the House unanimously passing veterans’ health care and accountability legislation that senators say is extraordinarily close to the version crafted by Sanders and John McCain (R-Ariz.), lawmakers across the Capitol are increasingly confident that the president will have a new veterans’ health law on his desk by the end of the month.

So the United States Congress decides to have a rare moment of clarity and help our nation’s heroes get the healthcare and services they deserve.  This is great news, right?  Well just today over on Fox News, the critics have come out swinging saying the bill could have a huge price tag when all is said and done.

Fiscal hawks are warning that new legislation passed in both chambers of Congress this week in response to the Veteran Affairs scandal could cost taxpayers more than $500 billion over the next decade.

A Senate source told FoxNews.com on Friday that lawmakers “passed a bill they didn’t read which led to Congress issuing a blank check with real consequences for the country down the road.”

The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget rang the alarm bells over the bill on Thursday, releasing a statement saying the Senate version of the bill “violates every principle of good budgeting, and could add substantially to the national debt.”

This Fox News commentator doesn’t think our nation’s Vets are worth the investment.  The bill may have a big price tag, and we of course would hope our legislators and their staff could always read things that they vote on, but if it helps to fix systemic problems plaguing the VA, then the American people should rally behind it.  Our heroes are worth every penny and then some.

Fox News accuses Obama of Pre-K Konspiracy

Kudos to Think Progress for first reporting this.

Apparently President Obama is trying to run some “serious game” on our nation’s children. In this deafening little tidbit from Fox News (where else?, anchor Steve Doocy and commentator Stuart Varney accuse the Commander-In-Chief of trying to buy off the votes of 4-yr olds with his proposed national Pre-K program. I wish I could say this was an exaggeration, but it is the sad truth…

Varney: “Look what the President is doing here. It’s a repeat performance of his campaign, which is… you raise taxes on the rich, and you offer all kinds of ‘free stuff’ to people who will vote for you in the future… He’s buying votes with future tax-payer money.”

Yes because universal Pre-K is the kind of “free stuff” that Democrats like. Republican kids could care less about getting an educational head start. Except for when they live in states like Oklahoma or Georgia who already offer universal Preschool programs… and VERY popular ones at that. Unlike the clawing tooth and nail that happens in cities like New York and Chicago, every child in Oklahoma is guaranteed a spot in Pre-K. Funded by the good ‘ol Oklahoma taxpayers. O-K!!

It’s those very same programs that have paved the way for parts of rapidly-bluing Texas to do the same thing. Last November, the city of San Antonio passed a referendum to create Pre-K for SA, and because of that, all San Antonio kids will soon have universal Pre-school. If Obama’s really trying to win over the votes of kids, shouldn’t he start with the Liberal strongholds first? And as a man who has already been elected to a Second Term as President, Barack Obama literally has “nowhere to run”. The President is term-limited in the Constitution (as Fox News knows VERY well), so it wouldn’t exactly behoove him to waste so much energy into those 2030 eligible voters!!

I’ve seen some Fox News FAILS, but this one is a real DOOCY.

Bill O’Reilly’s LIES about NBC/ MSNBC Drone Coverage

The O’Reilly factor remains the number one cable news show on television (at least according to Neilsen ratings, which doesn’t account for online viewership). His ratings beat any of the shows on MSNBC or CNN. He’s the “top dog”.

Knowing this is why it’s simply inexcusable for Mr. O’Reilly to continue to LIE about the dedicated journalism of NBC News (of which MSNBC and NBC News are inextricably linked) with regard to American drone strikes. O’Reilly claims DIRECTLY that NBC News has been mum on drone strikes. He accuses NBC News directly of protecting the President, and asks “why aren’t they speaking out” about drones.

This is complete and utter nonsense. NBC News has been relentless in their criticism of the Obama Administration’s drone program, and the very scary issues regarding it. The proof is out in the real world for all of YouTube to see. So I’ve decided to provide a little compendium of the drone coverage.

From my recollection, here’s Rachel Maddow’s first story covering the drone war… aired December 5th, 2009

And further coverage of Maddow discussing the death of Anwar Al-Awlaki and Samir Khan by drone strike. She’s openly criticizing the Obama Administration because Al-Awlaki and Khan were American citizens. This was in 2011…

Oh, and nevermind that Ms. Maddow’s book Drift discusses drone strikes as a central tennet of military privitization.

And then of course, Tuesday night… when Ms. Maddow interviewed Michael Isikoff after he obtained classified documents on the drone strikes.

So it’s time for Bill O’Reilly to come clean and simply admit that he lied to his viewers. With all of the coverage that NBC News and MSNBC have done about drone strikes, there is NO POSSIBLE WAY that the educated and informed staff of the O’Reilly Factor could have missed Rachel Maddow’s criticism of the Obama Administration on this. The jig is up O’Reilly… and we are calling you out.

“Misleading” Fox News Tweet?

No, really. So now Fox News is using it’s subliminal game to suggest that President Obama “engaged in improper behavior” in 2008…

But the story that links to the tweet is about Obama’s choice for Iraq ambassador who has withdrawn from the post amid an alleged scandal. Also important to note that the nominee in question, Mr. Brett McGurk, worked for the Bush administration in 2008, when the scandal would have taken place.

So come on Fox News… why mislead your Twitter followers to suggest the President himself behaved inappropriately in Iraq. Everyone makes mistakes, but can you at least CORRECT them.

Full disclosure… I’ve asked them to correct the issue twice. Let’s hope they do.

Fox News on Gas Prices– 2008

Part of the beauty of living in Social Media world is that the past can truly live forever. Many on Fox News have been quick to blame the Obama Administration for somehow causing rising gas prices. But back in 2008, as this poignant reminder from Media Matters shows, they were singing a different tune. Some of the commentators even advocate for GOVERNMENT spending on things like Public Transportation, and more fuel-efficient vehicles. Wha-huh?? What a shame that they’ve decided to be so hypocritical now…
